10 Ways to Keep Your Hair Healthy and Happy

3) Don’t Overdo It

A quick rinse isn’t enough; you have to wash your hair—especially if it’s long or heavily styled. Some stylists will tell you that rinsing just doesn’t cut it. Water-soluble styling products are often heavier than what they claim, meaning they don’t rinse out properly.

4) Sulfate-Free Shampoos

If you have color-treated hair, or just want to prevent your hair from drying out and losing its luster, skip shampoos with sulfates (sodium lauryl or laureth sulfate). Sulfates can be harsh on your hair, stripping it of its natural oils, resulting in dullness. Look for milder detergents like cocamidopropyl betaine—it’s gentler than sulfates but still gets your scalp clean.
