10 Every Day Habits That Negatively Impact Your Kidneys

Most people don’t think about their kidneys until one of them stops working, and even then most people don’t know much about them beyond that they are responsible for filtering toxins out of the blood. Unfortunately, there are many everyday habits that can damage your kidneys over time, making it important to educate yourself on how to reduce your risk of kidney disease and improve your overall health. Here are 10 everyday habits that negatively impact your kidneys in the long run

Drinking tap water

Tap water is a little scary. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) states that more than 30,000 chemicals are found in tap water, many of which may be dangerous to your health. Whether you are at home or at work, it’s best to drink filtered water instead of tap.

It may seem that eating as much food as you can handle is a healthy thing to do, but in fact, it’s one of your biggest risk factors for kidney disease. Too much of a good thing can lead to obesity and other weight-related complications such as high blood pressure, which all put unnecessary stress on your kidneys. Keep a close eye on portion sizes and have smaller meals more frequently throughout the day if you’re prone to overindulging.
